"People are going to talk about you no matter what you do.....
... Eventually the truth comes out."
Yes, it is not uncommon for narcissistic abusers to use smear campaigns as a tactic to punish and intimidate their victims, particularly if the victim tries to leave the relationship or speak out about the abuse. Narcissistic abusers often have a need to control and dominate their victims, and a smear campaign can be a way for them to maintain that control even after the victim has left the relationship.
The abuser may try to spread false or damaging information about the victim to family, friends, and even in public forums, in an effort to discredit the victim and make them appear unreliable or untrustworthy. This can make it difficult for the victim to get support or be believed if they try to speak out about the abuse. It is important for victims of narcissistic abuse to be aware of this tactic and to seek support from trusted friends, family, or professionals in order to protect themselves and their reputation.
